As part of the project “Ethno-City: One Among Our Own in the Cultural Space of the Nizhyn Community”, a meeting took place where participants became acquainted with Ukrainian traditions through creative work.
Long ago, our ancestors, when seeing someone off on a long journey, wanted to give them not only the necessary things but also a piece of home warmth. Such a companion was the Traveler doll – a small amulet doll into which good wishes, care, and hope for a happy return were placed.
At the master class, participants made their own Travelers with their hands. Each doll acquired its own details, and along with them, a special mood and meaning. After all, such things are valuable not only for their beauty but also for the history we put into them.
And although today we travel very differently, the desire to protect loved ones, wish them a safe journey, and wait for them at home remains unchanged. Perhaps that is why the ancient tradition of creating the Traveler doll still finds a response in our hearts.
The project is implemented by the NGO “EcoArtPlatform” in partnership with the Ivan Spaskyi Nizhyn Local History Museum and the Nizhyn Central Library Nizhyn.
The project is funded by the EVZ Foundation within the program “eMistechko – Third Places in Ukraine”.
